Red Lodge Mountain

A new identity stays true to an old-school mountain

Red Lodge is the closest mountain to the midwest, a resolutely feisty ski resort and proud of it. It’s a character—a place with après-ski for people who are looking for togetherness, not a scene. In the nearby town of Red Lodge, they can find a James Beard nominee’s idea of dinner and a rancher’s idea of a dive bar. Resonance was engaged to create a brand narrative and identity for Red Mountain Lodge that was aligned with the values of both the mountain and the midwesterners who ski there.

Our team visited the mountain, got to know the stakeholders, and held a workshop. We created the positioning Down to Earth Altitude to reflect the place and the people, and  developed a logo inspired by the raven, a ubiquitous area species that’s as down to earth as it is clever, tough and resourceful. The historic pattern of brickwork on town buildings, reminiscent of mountain peaks. further influenced the logo, which soars upward to the fresh powder of the mountaintops.

The brand story, positioning  and identity have been used extensively on the mountain, the website, and the town of Red Lodge.
