Place branding changes perceptions of Vancouver’s growing North Shore.
The Lower Lonsdale neighborhood on Vancouver’s North Shore is the area’s longtime downtown. The Business Improvement Area of Lower Lonsdale engaged Resonance to create an identity that would increase awareness of the area and also leverage the popularity of the historic waterfront at its foot, resulting in a unified place brand that could be embraced by businesses and residents at a time of rapid growth for the area.
Our team collaborated with the BIA, municipal government and tourism sectors in Lower Lonsdale to uncover key perceptions and place attributes. To articulate the essence of Lower Lonsdale, we created a brand story and vision that emphasized the area’s heritage and connectivity to the historic shipbuilding district, as well as to Vancouver’s urban core. The storyline served as a foundation for the branding of the area as “The Shipyards District” with a boldly graphic visual identity and key messages.
The Shipyard District successfully makes two neigborhoods one, benefiting both in communications throughout the North Shore and Greater Vancouver. Our multi-platform place branding has helped the area become a vital destination for locals, Vancouverites and visitors from around the world.
