North Shore Preserve

Kaua‘i, Hawaii

Resonance was engaged in a rethink of the opportunities for a large property on the North Shore of Kaua‘i, which became a reflection on the evolving nature of luxury, privacy, stewardship and the very particular nature of the North Shore.

As we worked through the varied geography and topography of the mountainous North Shore Preserve—along with assets that included the storied Princeville Golf Course and its clubhouse, the historic Princeville Ranch, a beach and riverfront, a polo field, a surf shack, the HQ of big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton’s health foods, and other unique attributes—it became clear that there was an opportunity for a unique positioning and role for the property. Resonance recommended that the first 72 prospective owners of homesites on the Preserve would be, along with the developer, its stewards, responsible for bringing to life an idea that would make locals and the community an integral part of the project, and protect and conserve its unique landscape in perpetuity. The combination of neighborliness and privacy, along with the well-being made possible by the extraordinary climate, clean air and water, have made the preserve a unique offering for a sophisticated and wealthy west coast clientele, and has attracted the 1 Hotel, which will open in Hanalei Bay in 2022.
