This month’s issue of National Geographic Traveler features the most interesting small cities in the U.S.—from ‘Dog-friendliest’ to ‘Most-Instagrammed’. It’s the result of an exciting collaboration between the media icon and Resonance’s 2018 America’s Best Cities data.

RESONANCE INSIGHT MEETS NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC STORYTELLING

The February/March 2018 issue of Traveler features the story “Cities on the Rise,” an eight-page, 29-city ranking across index that range from “Most-Instagrammed” to “Sudsiest” across population size. Resonance Consultancy worked with National Geographic and applied our deep city knowledge and data to surface the best cities according to specific traveler interests.

“We were pleased to partner with Resonance, whose innovative research underpinned our editorial coverage with integrated data sets based on social media reviews and city statistics,” says National Geographic Traveler Editor-in-Chief George Stone. “This allows us to point our readers toward the best destinations for the best travel experiences in America’s best small cities.”

Each of the 10 categories yields three top cities according to population size: 40,000 to 100,000, 100,000 to 200,000 and 200,000 to 600,000.

There were plenty of surprises, and the cities that we surfaced—from Hickory, North Carolina, to Honolulu—offer plenty of inspiration for your summer travel plans, to say nothing of showcasing some of the best attributes of America’s smaller urban gems.

The Small Cities Index is based on Resonance Consultancy’s America’s Best Cities and World’s Best Cities program, which is housed on BestCities.org and features a “Choose Your Perfect City” tool based on this data, as well as extensive city profiles on our top 100.

The free 2018 America’s Best Cities report is available on our website.

Our approach to analyzing millions of consumer-generated ratings and reviews to create indexes such as these is an innovative new approach to revealing the characteristics that differentiate one place from another. We’re excited to be working with National Geographic to share this data and its insights with travelers around the world.
